On the work

"The ocean is never the same twice. Each painting is an attempt to hold one of its breaths — its weight, its light, its crashing waves."

— Rafael Quijano

About the artist

A lifelong dialogue with the sea.

Born in Cancún in 1990, Rafael trained classically under Maestro Francisco Negrete and has been painting the ocean ever since. His seascapes balance realism with expressive movement.

His work has been exhibited in New York at the NYC Culture Club and MOCANA, and he has contributed to the bronze patination of works by Lynda Benglis and other internationally recognized artists at the Bedi-Makky Art Foundry.
